University of KwaZulu-Natal Now Accepting Online Applications for 2027

The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has officially opened its online application portal for prospective students eager to join the 2027 academic year. As one of South Africa’s leading institutions, UKZN offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in today’s competitive world. WANT TO APPLY AT KZN:  

UKZN Entry Requirement:  For University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) applications for 2027, the basic entry requirements depend on the course you want to study. But there are general requirements for all undergraduate programs. 

  

1. General Admission Requirements  

You must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent with:  

Bachelor’s pass  

Minimum APS score: usually 30–38+ depending on the program  

English: Level 4 (50–59%) or higher 

Some programs require Mathematics and Physical Sciences  

2. Typical APS Requirements by Faculty  

  • Faculty Minimum APS Other Requirements 
  • Humanities 30–32 English Level 4 
  • Education 30–32 English Level 4 
  • Law 33+ English Level 5 recommended 
  • Commerce (BCom) 34+ Mathematics Level 5 
  • Health Sciences 36–40+ Maths & Physical Science Level 5–6 
  • Engineering 35–38+ Maths & Physical Science Level 6 

(Higher-demand programs require higher marks.)  

UKZN Application Fee 

  • R250 for South African applicants 
  • R470 for international applicants 

UKZN Required  Documents  

  • Certified ID copy 
  • Grade 11 final results 
  • Grade 12 June/Trial results (if already in matric)  
  • Proof of application fee payment. 

 

UKZN 2027 APPLICATION PROCESS: 

The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) 2027 application process is done through the Central Applications Office (CAO).  

  1. Apply Through CAO  

You must apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO).  

Steps:  

  • Go to the CAO website: www.cao.ac.za 
  • Create a CAO account. 
  • Fill in the online application form. 
  • Choose your programme choices (up to 6). 
  • Submit the application.  

 2.Pay the Application Fee  

You must pay the CAO application fee.  

About R250 – R3470 for online applications (may change slightly each year).  

Payment methods include: 

  • EFT  
  • Bank deposit  

3. Submit Required Documents 

You will need to upload or send certified copies of: 

  • ID document / passport  
  • Grade 11 results (if still in matric) 
  • Matric certificate or latest results 

Proof of payment of application fee 

NB: Some courses may also require NBT results, portfolios, or extra documents.  

4. Track Your Application  

After applying, CAO will give you a CAO number. 

Use it to:  

Track your status on the CAO website 

 See if you are accepted, rejected, or waitlisted.  

  

 UKZN 2027 CLOSING DATES: 

 

  • 30 June 2026 – For Medicine (MBChB) and some Health Sciences programmes. 
  • 30 September 2026 – For most other undergraduate programmes (Law, Commerce, Humanities, Engineering, etc.). 

 It’s best to apply early, because some competitive courses may fill before the deadline. Applications are submitted through the Central Applications Office (CAO).
