DUT Entry Requirement: The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has general entry requirements for students applying for the 2027 academic year. The exact requirements depend on the qualification (Higher Certificate, Diploma, or bachelor’s degree).
1. Minimum Entry Requirements (NSC / Matric)
Higher Certificate programmes
National Senior Certificate (NSC) with:
English Level 3 (40–49%) or higher
These programmes usually have lower APS requirements and are often used as a pathway to diplomas.
Diploma programmes
National Senior Certificate (NSC) with:
English Level 3 (40–49%)
Level 3 in four other recognized subjects
Diploma programmes typically require a Diploma pass in Matric.
Bachelor’s Degree programmes
National Senior Certificate (NSC) with:
English Level 3 or higher
Level 4 (50–59%) in four designated subjects
You must have a Bachelor pass in Matric.
2. APS (Admission Point Score)
DUT uses the APS system to rank applicants.
Typical APS expectations:
Degree programmes: about 23–35+ APS
Diplomas: lower APS may be accepted depending on the course
APS points are calculated from your best 6 subjects (excluding Life Orientation).
Applications must be done through the Central Applications Office (CAO).

Click Apply
Step 2: Create a CAO profile
Register using:
- Your email address
- South African ID number
- Personal details
Step 3: Choose your courses

You can choose up to 6 programmes and rank them in order of preference.
