DUT 2027 Online Application Now Open

DUT Entry Requirement: The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has general entry requirements for students applying for the 2027 academic year. The exact requirements depend on the qualification (Higher Certificate, Diploma, or bachelor’s degree).  

1. Minimum Entry Requirements (NSC / Matric) 

Higher Certificate programmes 

National Senior Certificate (NSC) with: 

 English Level 3 (40–49%) or higher  

 These programmes usually have lower APS requirements and are often used as a pathway to diplomas. 

 Diploma programmes 

National Senior Certificate (NSC) with: 

English Level 3 (40–49%) 

Level 3 in four other recognized subjects  

 Diploma programmes typically require a Diploma pass in Matric. 

Bachelor’s Degree programmes 

 National Senior Certificate (NSC) with: 

 English Level 3 or higher 

 Level 4 (50–59%) in four designated subjects  

 You must have a Bachelor pass in Matric.  

2. APS (Admission Point Score)  

DUT uses the APS system to rank applicants.  

Typical APS expectations:  

Degree programmes: about 23–35+ APS 

Diplomas: lower APS may be accepted depending on the course  

APS points are calculated from your best 6 subjects (excluding Life Orientation).  

 Applications must be done through the Central Applications Office (CAO).  

DUT Required documents: 

• When applying you usually submit: 
•   Certified copy of ID  
• Grade 11 results (if still in Grade 12) 
•   Matric certificate / results 
• Proof of payment 

DUT Application fee  

R250 – for South African applicants 

R300 – for international applicants 

Pay the application fee through Central Application Office (CAO)

 1.Where to Apply 

  You do NOT apply directly on the DUT website for undergraduate studies. 

Applications are done through the Central Applications Office (CAO).

Step-by-Step Application Process 

 Step 1: Go to the CAO website  

Visit www.cao.ac.za 

Click Apply 

Step 2: Create a CAO profile  

Register using:  

• Your email address  
• South African ID number  
• Personal details 

Step 3: Choose your courses 

Select Durban University of Technology as one of your choices. 

You can choose up to 6 programmes and rank them in order of preference.   

Step 4: Upload required documents  

You usually need: 

• Certified copy of ID  
• Grade 11 final results (if still in matric) 
• Grade 12 results (June/trial if available) 
• Final matric certificate (if already finished) 
• Proof of payment of the application fee  

Step 5: Pay the application fee  

Typical CAO fee:  

Around R250 for South African applicants.  

 Step 6: Submit and track your application 

Submit your application online.  

Track your status on the CAO portal. 

 3.After Applying  

DUT will review your results and requirements. 

 You will receive: 

•  SMS or email updates 

 Acceptance or rejection notice.  

 If accepted: 

 You will register online before the academic year begins.  

4. Important Tips 

Apply as early as possible (March–June). 

Make sure documents are certified.
